7. Choose on-screen keyboard options

While still in Settings>>Devices, go to the Typing settings.

At the very bottom, I like to turn on “Show the touch keyboard when not in tablet mode and there’s no keyboard attached.”

This behavior is more akin to what you’ll find on an iPad when you tap an entry field with your finger.
